State Parks

Grand Island is home to two New York State Parks.

Beaver Island State Park

At the south end of Grand Island, Beaver Island State Park is 950 acres, located in the upper Niagara River.

Along with a swimming beach, there is a marina and many playgrounds, picnic areas, nature trails and athletic fields.

Beaver Island is also home to the Grand Island Historical Society and River Lea, the society's museum.

Buckhorn Island State Park

At the north end of Grand Island, Buckhorn Island State Park is a 895 acre park preserve situated on the shore of the east Niagara River.

Comprised of marsh, meadows and woods, the park has a nature trail and is a good spot to fish, hike and cross country ski.

Currently the park is undergoing restoration to re-establish wetland cover and water levels.
